Where Every Life Matters
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with Humane Society of Fremont County!
As an independent nonprofit organization, we rely on volunteers to help with virtually every aspect of our organization, such as, providing daily care, exercise and enrichment for the animals, assisting with housekeeping duties, and helping visitors, to name a few. Your time as a volunteer is a valuable gift and just a few hours a week will make an incredible difference in the lives of homeless animals.
Volunteer Prerequisites
There is NO minimum hour commitment to be a volunteer. Volunteers must be at least 17 years of age. Individuals between 13 and 16 years of age may also volunteer, but due to insurance regulations, they must have a parent with them at all times. Volunteers should be committed to being dependable and to abide by the policies and procedures of the Humane Society of Fremont County.
Steps to Volunteering
Application
All volunteers must fill out an application form in order to volunteer with Humane Society of Fremont County. Our Online Volunteer Application Form allows you to quickly send us your information for review.
Interview
Prospective volunteers will be invited to interview with our Volunteer Manager to discuss personal goals, daily responsibilities, and whether or not a certain volunteer position is a proper fit for you. We say this because some folks want to volunteer, but once they see animals living in cages, animals coming into the shelter in horrific conditions, and animals being surrendered at the front counter, some understandably can't handle volunteering in an animal shelter.
Orientation
Attending a Volunteer Orientation provides an overview of the Humane Society’s programs and services, answers frequently asked questions about the shelter, reviews available volunteer opportunities, and provides a complete shelter tour.
Training
Each prospective volunteer is required to attend a Volunteer Animal Training Session to review shelter safety procedures, learn how to read an animals body language, and how to properly and safely handle animals within a shelter environment. This training is not only for for your safety but also for the safety of our animals.
